Progreso Yucatán, Mexico

As of a 2020 census, there were approximately 41,965 residents in Progreso. This port city is Yucatan’s most important port for exports. The 6 km Progreso Pier (Muelle Altura Progreso) is the largest pier in Mexico. It harbours large export and import ships and visiting cruise ships.

2 km east of Progreso, you’ll find Xcambó Archaeological Site. This site was the most important salt mine in the Mayan Peninsula. It has a plaza and you can still see the remains of the residential area. It has a relatively newer temple dedicated to the Virgin Mary, which many visit as a pilgrimage. 15 km west (about a 30-minute drive) of Progreso, there is Uaymitún, which has a viewpoint from which you can observe a small flamingo colony.

Progreso has a relaxed beach-town feel while also offering many opportunities for outdoor excursions.

Progreso (aka Puerto Progreso) is a port city, located near Merida in the Yucatán state of Mexico, on the northwest coast of the Yucatán Peninsula. The city has a long beach, with a boardwalk next to it that is also known as the Malecón de Progreso. The boardwalk is a pedestrian-only area for entertainment and a center for nightlife in the city. It is a great place to walk by the ocean and eat and drink in one of the restaurants or bars.
