Exploring magical Huatulco

Huatulco boasts a wide array of lifestyles and attractions, from high-end resorts to small towns such as Santa Cruz and La Crucecita. In the 1970s, it became the main sea turtle hunting area for the market of sea turtle meat and eggs. Since the number of sea turtles declined at an alarming rate, Mexico issued an absolute ban on turtle meat and eggs. Now, the town has ecotourism centered on conserving sea turtles and natural cosmetics, including the Mexican National Turtle Center and Cosméticos Naturales de Mazunte.

Puerto Angel, approximately 50 kilometers west of Huatulco, is also a small coastal town. Beyond its tourism development, which began in the 1960s, it remains largely a fishing village. It’s located on a small bay surrounded by rocky cliffsides that create a stunning landscape.
